Update on the Almond Law

Sometime this week, I will be blogging about my recent almond trip. Just to give you an update:

The almond law is going into effect because a California grower made the mistake of laying manure at the time of harvest. Almonds are dropped to the ground at the time of harvest and are then sent to a processing plant to dehull. When manure is on some of the shells, it becomes a breathing ground for salmonella. You can read more about the incident here.

In case you are wondering, the outer velvety shell becomes cattle fed.
