Does Watching the Olympics Motivate You to Exercise More?

I have to admit. Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps recently caught my attention when headlines started popping up that this 7 time gold medalist consumes 10000 calories per day. We all know that we can’t burn 10000 calories per day, so how does this guy do it? There must be some magical formula out there. What is it that this guy is doing right, and what are we doing wrong? The guy consumes whole pizzas! We get fat if we consume one slice.

Is it possible to burn 10000 calories per day, or is Michael just pulling our leg?  If you try using the Buddyslim’s calories burned calculator, I’m not sure how 10000 calories get burned per day.

I know he trains like 6 to 8 hours a day. So imagine you doing your one hour workout 6 to 8 times! I know he prolly works out 100 times harder than I do per hour!! He is also like 6′3″ so just what he needs to consume to run his body is more than most of us of average height and weight. Plus his body is probably very efficient at using energy and knows it does not need to store fat. Elite athletes are like furnaces when it comes to food…they are not the average human. That’s my best guess!

Dr. Marc is about 6 ft. 4″ and does not consume anywhere near 10000 calories per day. Michael Phelps must have a super high testerone to be able to burn food this quickly. His food bill averages $65 per day or $23725 per year!

Here I am, a “midget,” consuming 2000 to 2500 calories per day without getting fat. My friends eat less and get fat, and they are trying to figure me out. I “graze” throughout the day.
